After more than two decades of bringing sneakers, streetwear, art, and emerging designers together under one roof, a longtime retailer is preparing to close its doors.

The decision marks the end of a 22-year run for a boutique that became closely tied to the city’s creative and fashion communities. Unlike many recent retail closures, however, this one isn’t being driven by declining sales or broader industry pressures.

Founded in 2004, Wish Atlanta is a popular sneaker and streetwear boutique in Atlanta’s Little Five Points neighborhood. The store is known for carrying sought-after brands, showcasing emerging local talent, and connecting fashion with the city’s broader art and culture scene.

Wish Atlanta is closing after 22 years

Wish Atlanta is permanently closing its business and boutique at 447 Moreland Ave NE in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 28, 2026, ending a long run.

Founder Lauren Amos told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the decision wasn’t made because of business challenges. Instead, she said it stemmed from “monumental life changes” for her and co-owner and CEO Julie Hogg.

Amos had worked as a manager for an earlier iteration of Wish before being offered the opportunity to purchase the business in 2004. She accepted and relaunched the store in 2006, eventually turning it into a destination for sneakers, streetwear, art, and music.

Over the years, Wish Atlanta became one of the few women-owned and operated sneaker and streetwear boutiques in the world. According to the company’s website, Amos and Hogg have used the store to highlight exclusive brands, designers, artists, and emerging talent while giving Atlanta creatives a platform.

Why Wish Atlanta is closing

In 2023, Amos’ husband, Clayton, died from lung cancer. The two had worked closely together at Wish Atlanta, and after his death, Amos and Hogg spent years wrestling with whether to shut down the business.

“This is not a result of us not making money. This is not a result of somebody stealing. This isn’t a result of the greater industry,” Amos told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“This has really been a personal decision for us.”

Amos owns the building where Wish Atlanta operates and has no immediate plans for what will replace the boutique. She said she hopes a “young, cool, creative person” eventually takes over the space and creates something new that excites Atlanta.

The closure will not affect ANT/DOTE, the luxury boutique also owned by Amos. That business will remain open, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Wish Atlanta closes as retailers rethink physical stores

Wish Atlanta’s decision comes as other sneaker and athletic retailers continue to reduce their physical footprints, although Amos said broader industry pressure was not behind the closure.

Several major retailers have announced store closures or reductions in recent months.

For Wish Atlanta, however, the closure of its physical store represents a different kind of retail shutdown. After more than two decades in Little Five Points, its closure marks the end of a chapter for Atlanta’s creative community.
